World Theatre Day celebrated on San Marino Stamps

Date of Issue : 4 June 2011

To celebrate World Theatre Day, San Marino Post issued a Souvenir sheet featuring performing Arts theme on 4 June 2011. World Theater Day is observed all over the world on 27 March.

This issue celebrates the art of performing a story live through a combination of words, gestures, music, dance, vocality, expressivity, sounds, designs and scenery. The artist who made the original design used a chromatic approach mainly to underline the emotions that the theatre arouses in the spectator watching acting, ballet, tragedies or comedies.

As a result, the souvenir sheet is covered from the top to the bottom with images of dancers and actors performing a play or opera, masks from Greek theatre and Venetian Commedia dell’Arte, parts of scenery, architecture and rays of light which, together with the symbols of the Palazzo Pubblico, the three Towers of San Marino and the allegory of the Statue of Liberty, wish to recall the importance of this visual art in the artistic panorama of the world.

World Theatre Day

World Theatre Day is an opportunity to celebrate Theatre in all its myriad forms. Theatre is a source of entertainment and inspiration and has the ability to unify the many diverse cultures and peoples that exist throughout the world. But theatre is more than that and also provides opportunities to educate and inform.

Theatre is performed throughout the world and not always in a traditional theatre setting. Performances can occur in a small village in Africa, next to a mountain in Armenia, on a tiny island in the Pacific. All it needs is a space and an audience. Theatre has the ability to make us smile, to make us cry, but should also make us think and reflect.

Theatre comes about through team work. Actors are the people who are seen, but there is an amazing set of people who are not seen. They are equally as important as the actors and their differing and specialist skills make it possible for a production to take place. They too must share in any triumphs and successes that may hopefully occur.

March 27 is always the official World Theatre Day.

RBI to issue Non-Sequential Numbered Banknotes in Denomination of Rs 500

With a view to enhancing operational efficiency and cost effectiveness in banknote printing at banknote presses, it has been decided to issue, to begin with, fresh banknotes of

` 500 denomination in packets, which may not necessarily all be sequentially numbered. This is consistent with international best practices. Packets of Banknotes in non-sequential number will, as usual, have 100 notes. The bands of the packets containing the banknotes in non-sequential number will clearly be superscribed with the legend, "The packet contains 100 notes not numbered sequentially.

His best friend is Chicken, who is younger but sometimes smarter than Teddy. His youngest friend, Duckling, does not understand very much and so can be a bit trying.

Bruno

Bruno the Bear made his television debut in 2005 as the door opener for the advent-calendar serial “Teddy’s Christmas Journey”. He is an old, badly worn bear, filled with hay and straw. Instead of a right paw, he has a claw, which is sometimes replaced with a pizza-slicer or a flamethrower. Bruno usually sees himself as the centre of the universe. He speaks with slight Jutland accent and, as seen on the stamp, he loves French fries.

Discussion

Critical Analysis of the cover : The 3 elements of the above cover are not co-related. The stamp is on Energy conservation, cover illustration shows Rhododendron and the cancellation shows “letter writing campaign”. Not a good item for thematic collection . All the three elements must have relation with each other.

New Stamps from Romania

Date of Issue : 2 June 2011

Romania Post issued a beautiful set of two stamps   on Circus and 6 stamps on first six Zodiac signs. Both the sets are unique and wonderful !!

Circus

In the glory period of the Roman Empire, the circus represented one of the most accessible and favourite forms of entertainment. The manner of existence and organization of the activities, united under the name of circus, bears the clear mark of the temperament of different peoples and continents.

In Ancient Rome, the word “circus” meaning a circle or ring, defined the spaces having this shape where manifestations specific to that time took place: soldiers competing to demonstrate their qualities as great fighters, animal taming etc.

After the fall of the Roman Empire, circus continued its existence in Europe due to the organized groups of actors who were present with their performances, especially in the town fairs. In the Middle Ages, in Saxony, people saw these nomads also as an important source that could supply information about what was happening in the world, since strolling artists sang, told stories and most of the times brought news about other towns. After the Normans invasion, the juggler emerged in the world of the Saxon circus decreasing initially the popularity of minstrels. Subsequently, the circus actors learned to combine the representation styles and to share their dexterity tricks.

The history of the Romanian circus started in 1874 in Bucharest when the first autochthonous circus Sidoli Circus was set up, in the location of the present Gambrinus Beerhouse founded by I. L. Caragiale. The period between 1960 and 1970 was beneficial for the development of the acrobatic art, juggling and, implicitly, the circus show. The Romanian jugglers were highly appreciated by the audience on the stages of many countries performing as skilled acrobats, tightrope walkers, and illusionists.

Srirangam is located 2 Km north of Tiruchirappalli City. The postmark depicts Sheshanaag. Shesha is generally depicted with a massive form that floats coiled in space, or on the universal ocean, to form the bed on which Lord Vishnu lies. The Srirangam temple complex is composed of 7 concentric walled sections and 21 gopurams (towers). The main gopuram of the temple is called the Rajagopuram and is 236 feet (72 m) tall, the tallest in Asia. The temple has numerous pillars with intrinsic sculptures. The Shesharaya mandapa (Horsecourt Hall) is in the eastern entrance of the temple and has 8 intricately carved monolithic (carved of single rock) pillars of men on rearing horses (depicted on special cover  as well as in photo).
